K02: Judas Tree, Cercis siliquastrum
Tree: A legume, related to the Carob, it has a flower like a little sweet pea. It is a Mediterranean plant and has long been in cultivation. It is curious in that the flowers appear in little bunches from the main stems, not towards the tips of the branches and the flowers appear before the leaves. This is probably a variety called Bodnant, from the Garden in North Wales. It has not flowered, possibly because it is overshadowed by sycamores and cypress.
