D37: Apple, Malus pumila

The domestic apple, with thousands  of varieties. Cultivated in Central Asia from the wild M. sieversii  between 4 and 10,000 years ago on  the northern slopes of the Tian Shan mountains, and seeds of some form of apple have been found in Italy from 4,000 BCE. The  apple has mythological and cultural importance throughout Europe and Central Asia
