Species of Actinidia occur naturally in Southern China, Japan, and the Russian far east. This vigorous deciduous, dioecious climber was first collected for the RHS in 184, but cultivation spread in the early 20th century when Isobel Fraser introduced it from China to New Zealand in 1906. Production is mainly in China, Italy and New Zealand.
