F10: Small Leaved Lime: Tilia cordata

Native in England and Wales on limestone and is distributed from Northern Spain to the Caucasus and Siberia. The tree can grow to 30 m. The leaves commonly have tufts of buff hairs in the axils of the leaf veins. The flowers open in early July, erect or spreading at random angles, and the fruit are glabrous and smooth, not ribbed as in T. platyphyllos
