D15: Oregon Crab, Malus fusca

A small apple, to 13 m, from the Western Coasts of north America from Alaska to California. The flowers are white or pale pink and the bark and fruit were used medicinally by the indigenous peoples. This tree had the most lichens of any in the park, but died in 2020. It remains as a skeleton.
