We have two garden varieties of these favourite shrubs. Fuchsias were discovered in the Caribbean in 1697, and the 160 species occur in South America and north to Mexico, with a few species in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. F. magellanica has naturalised in South West Britain. There are large numbers of garden varieties.
