Linnaea x grandiflora is a semi-evergreen shrub. The genus is related to honeysuckles, Caprifoliaceae, and untill recently was called Abelia ( this name is still retained by  horticulturalists and the Plant List: taxonomists will always argue about nomenclature). Abelia  was split into Linnaea and Zabelia. This is a garden hybrid of L. chinensis and L. uniflora, and was grown in 1868 at the Rovelli nursery in Verbania, Piedmont, Northern Italy. The parents are native to  China, Taiwan,  and Japan. Its scented flowers are produced well into the autumn.
