A15: Golden Indian Bean, Catalpa bignonioides Walt.,

The Golden Indian Bean is a  quick growing medium sized deciduous tree native to the Southeastern United States. It can grow to 18 m tall, forming a broad open crown. The particular attraction is the large, bright golden green leaves which provide a good background to the upright panicles of white trumpet shaped flowers spotted with pink and yellow which are reminiscent of horse chestnut blossom. It flowers late, June or July. The wood is brittle but does not rot easily This tree was planted for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
